Great Allegheny Passage
This newly developed Passage links Cumberland MD with Pittsburgh, PA on motor-free trails. In summer of 2001, 100 continuous miles surfaced in packed crushed stone opened for waling, bicycling and in some areas, horseback riding between Meyersdale Pa and McKeesport, PA. Idlewild Park
A 410 acre family amusement complex located in Pennsylvania's Laurel Highlands. It is considered to be one the most beautiful theme parks in the country because of its natural setting. The park offers traditional amusement park thrills and atmosphere along with various themed areas. Kennywood
Visit America's Finest Traditional Amusement Park. Beautifully landscaped and designated as a National and State Historic Landmark. The park features thirty-one major rides, including three wooden roller coasters, Phantom's Revenge steel coaster, the indoor Exterminator (a roller coaster in the dark), three water rides, and fourteen Kiddieland rides. Mini golf, paddleboats and Skycoaster are separate charges. Thirty-five various games throughout the park, as well as four gift shops and four arcades. Kooser Park State Park
This park is stamped with the character of the Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930s. Picturesque cabins, beach and camping area provide relaxing scenery. Kooser State Park is bounded by Forbes State Forest on two sides and is an ideal spot to start an overnight backpacking trip on the 70-mile Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. In the heart of the Laurel Highlands at an altitude of 2,600 feet, Kooser State Park attracts visitors year-round to its 250 acres of forest and the beautiful trout stream that flows the full length of the park. Kooser State Park is on PA Route 31 midway between the Donegal and Somerset turnpike interchanges, at the eastern foothills of Laurel Mountain Summit. Laurel Hill State Park
The 63-acre Laurel Hill Lake is a focal point of the park. Laurel Hill is surrounded by thousands of acres of pristine state park and state forestlands. A trail system invites you to hike and explore the park and observe a diversity of plants and wildlife. A beautiful stand of old growth hemlocks lies along the Hemlock Trail. Laurel Hill State Park consists of 3,935 acres of mountainous terrain in Somerset County. The topography of the park is typical of the Allegheny Plateau province. The 63-acre Laurel Hill Lake is a prime attraction of the park From the Pennsylvania Turnpike Exit 110 (Somerset), drive west on PA Route 31 from Somerset for 10 miles, turn left on an unnumbered route and follow the directional sign to Laurel Hill State Park. Laurel Mountain Ski Resort
The first major ski resort in western Pennsylvania, Laurel Mountain was once owned & operated by General Richard King Mellon as a private resort for the Rolling Rock Club. It was operated as such until 1958. Much has changed over the past 10 years: snowboarding and snow tubing have taken off, and local ski resorts rely more heavily on state-of-the-art snowmaking systems to fill in when Mother Nature takes a break. Laurel Mountain's Don Stump, a.k.a. Father Snow, has been instrumental in the development of snowmaking systems all over the world. Living Treasures Animal Park Living Treasures
This Animal Park is a wonderful setting for a great family experience. The petting zoo is the thrill of the day for young visitors, while the exotic animals fascinate young and old alike. Bring your camera for those once in a lifetime photo opportunities. Open Memorial Day thru Labor Day everyday 10am - 8pm. On site at the Laurel Highlands site you will find a Rowdybuck Roadhouse, Caddie Shack Family Fun Park, Old General Store, Oakhurst Tea Room and White Water Rafting. Located just outside Somerset.

The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra
The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra celebrates its 34th season of presenting classical music concerts throughout the Westmoreland region in 2002-2003. Founded in 1969 under the direction of Richard Karp, manager and music director of the Pittsburgh Opera, the orchestra was comprised of mostly amateur musicians. Four concerts were presented at the Greensburg Salem High School during the first ten years of its existence. Kypros Markou founded the Westmoreland Symphony Youth Orchestra in 1981. He conducted the orchestra in its first years, and his inspiring leadership for young musicians led many to careers in music today. A Young Artists Competition, a concerto competition, was created in the early 1980s, and was changed to a recital format in 2002. Call 724-837-1850 for more information.
